Bell Labs MIMO-SDM Could Boost Optical Capacity to 1 Petabyte Per Second


A promising breakthrough in optical networking comes from Alcatel-Lucent’s Bell Labs. On November 19 Bell Labs unveiled what it is calling multiplexed optical multiple input-multiple output (MIMO-SDM) technology, which has the potential to overcome the capacity limits of optical fiber network data transport. Industry Makes Progress on 25 Gbps Ethernet Data Center Technology

Service providers that operate their own data centers will be pleased to learn that, according to the Ethernet Alliance, substantial progress is being made on the development of 25Gbps Ethernet data center equipment. Nearly 9 in 10 (more than 86 percent) of 25 gigabit per second (Gbps) Ethernet equipment and device feasibility tests at a recent multi-vendor event were successful, the Alliance highlights in a news release. Read more...

Researchers Identify Most Popular IoT Applications

How are people actually using the Internet of Things?  Three researchers affiliated with Accenture set out to answer that question by conducting an “open-source analysis of IoT user behavior.¨ The researchers examined more than 279,000 interactions with IoT devices spanning 1,000 IoT technology platforms, publishing the results in an article in the Harvard Business Review.
